Mastering Turbulence through High AR
While so many organizations are challenged, others find that increasing turbulence creates opportunity. Highly agile and resilient organizations view change more positively and proactively. They also perform best in terms of competitiveness and profitability. How is this done? They have developed the specific capabilities associated with high levels of agility and resiliency or High AR. There are three principles for building High AR:
- Principle 1: Both agility and resiliency must be developed together; neither alone masters turbulence. Both require continuous monitoring, investment and balancing as conditions change.
- Principle 2: Agility and resiliency must be built at four levels – at an individual, team, organization and the organization’s larger ecosystem of its interdependent network of organizations. The organization systematically works “down, around, and up” – down for its individuals and teams, across all its operations and functions, and up in its ecosystem relationships.
- Principle 3: The organization must create an adaptive design mindset and change skills for sustaining five essential capabilities at all four levels. These five are strongly associated with High AR based upon extensive research with organizations around the world. High AR individuals, teams, organizations and their ecosystems work diligently at being: Purposeful, Aware, Action Oriented, Resourceful and Networked.
